Our fitness suite is equipped with the most up-to-date-equipment:
  • 2 upright exercise bikes
  • 2 recumbent exercise bikes
  • 2 eliptical trainers
  • a multi gym consisting of a lateral pull-down machine, bench press and a leg-curl extension
  • 2 treadmills
  • weights
  • rowing machine
  • exercise balls

    • Large posters with comprehensive instructions and information are displayed by each machine.
Everybody must undergo a gym induction by a qualified fitness instructor before being allowed to use this equipment. No under 14's are allowed to use the fitness suite.

There are various exercises that can be carried out on the multi-gym. There may be only 3 different seat positions, but each machine offers at least two different exercises as they can all be adjusted. The main purpose of the Multi-gym is to build up muscle and to help tone up those who want a bit more definition and firmness to their bodies.
      There are three machines:

      • The leg extension/leg curl is principally for the front of the legs – the quadriceps and the back of the legs – the hamstrings
      • The lateral pull-down/low row/bicip curl/tricep press is mainly for the major back muscles – the latissimus dorsal and the erector spinae. The bicep curl and tricep press are self-explanatory, designed to build up strength and muscle tone in the arms
      • The shoulder/incline/bench press is principally designed to build up the deltoid, the anterior deltoids and the chest muscles, the pectorals.

At the very top of the list for fat-burning is running. It needn’t be fast. Treadmills are designed for cardio-vascular fitness. Treadmills are mainly used for weight-loss and general improved fitness. At Assynt Leisure we do our best to help you make the most of your treadmill workout and offer you professional advice and guidance you won’t get anywhere else.

We have two types of exercise bike – the recumbent and the upright. The recumbent is the more popular of the two as it overcomes two of the greatest problems of riding a bike with its comfortable seat and back support. However, this offers only a lower-body work out.
The upright bike offers a complete body work-out as it helps improve balance and builds up upper body strength too.
Both bikes provide an excellent form of cardio-vascular training.

The benefit of the rower is that you decide how hard you want to work and your body finds its own natural pace. The harder you work, the more beneficial the work-out. The rower offers a balanced whole-body work-out.

Elliptical trainers offer an all-over body work-out. They can exercise the lower and/or upper body, depending on what you want to concentrate on. If your balance is a little unsteady, there are handles you can grip to firm yourself. You can also grab hold of the swinging arms to help you get the most out of your work-out.
